That leftover stump is a tripping hazard, a mower's enemy, and an invitation for rot and insects. Our pros grind stumps below grade — then clean up so you'd never know it was there.
A tracked grinder chews the stump 6–12 inches below grade (deeper on request), turning it into mulch. Surface roots in the immediate area can be chased too. We backfill the hole with the grindings and rake the area clean. Most stumps take under an hour.
Full excavation — digging out the entire root ball — is expensive, destructive to the surrounding yard, and rarely necessary. Grinding is faster, cheaper, and leaves your lawn intact. It's the right call for the vast majority of residential stumps.
Price scales with stump diameter and access. Small stumps start affordably; large fir stumps cost more. Grinding is often discounted when bundled with a tree removal — ask about package pricing in your free estimate.
Standard is 6–12 inches below grade — deep enough to replant grass or garden beds. Deeper grinding is available for construction or replanting trees.
Grinding destroys the stump's ability to regrow. Occasional sucker sprouts from remaining lateral roots are possible with aggressive species but easy to manage.
The grindings make excellent mulch or backfill and most customers keep them. Full haul-away is available on request.
